We are so proud of Vikram for the success of his newest film Barry.
Barry is a film about Barack Obama’s life at Columbia University in 1981.
The film introduces and stars Devon Terrell (as Barry) and also features Anya Taylor-Joy, Jason Mitchell, Ashley Judd, Jenna Elfman, Ellar Coltrane, Avi Nash and Linus Roache.
Variety said about the film: “All good biopics are time machines, and this one beams you back to the New York City of 1981, a place still strewn with graffiti and trash, with hip-hop beats and Ed Koch mouthing off on TV, but instead of signposting the iconic period flavor, Vikram blends it right in, rooting it in the slightly gloomy stasis of a city that was still wrenching itself out of its doldrums.”
IndieWire: “Devon Terrell bears more than a passing resemblance to the man he’s playing, but the real testament to his performance is that he appears to look so much more like Obama as the film goes on and we get to know his character. Gandhi’s subtle and astute direction helps to nudge that along, his camera seeing Koch-era New York through the same lens of probing intensity that defined Barry’s perspective.”
The film was selected to be screened in the Special Presentations section at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival.
After TIFF, Netflix snapped up the film and it will air on December 16, 2016.
